Dow Corning renews with APL Logistics for ninth year in a row
New contract covers land transport, warehouse management in North America

Midland, Mich, 27 April 2009: Global supply chain management leader APL Logistics announced today it has finalized a contract extension to provide warehouse and land transport services to Dow Corning Corporation, worldwide manufacturer of silicone based materials.

Under terms of the deal, APL Logistics will manage Dow Corning’s North American distribution center, a nearly 400,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The logistics company will also oversee land transport for Dow Corning products shipped to locations in the U.S. and Mexico.

The agreement, which takes effect May 1, marks the ninth consecutive contract renewal between Midland, Michigan-based Dow Corning and APL Logistics. It also solidifies the logistics company’s position as a top provider to multinational chemical producers.

“We’ve been doing business with Dow Corning since 2000,” pointed out Peter Knapp, Vice President of Contract Logistics at APL Logistics. “To be renewed year after year by one of the most important names in this industry sends a strong message to the marketplace.”

Last year APL Logistics managed more than 10 million pounds of freight per week network-wide for Dow Corning. Weekly outbound volume at the Shepherdsville Distribution Center is expected to exceed 2 million kilograms per week.

Dow Corning said its latest contract renewal with APL Logistics was based on performance measures that included:

  • Cost per kilogram of freight under management;
  • Response time when supply chain issues arise; and
  • On-time cargo delivery.

APL Logistics has an average 98% on-time delivery performance.
